Chez Sharon is a tobacconist and newsagent situated in the Southern French Pyrenées. They approached us during the lockdown to create them an eCommerce site which customers can use to reserve products online before visiting the physical store.

The most user-friendly solution we could find to this was to use WordPress and WooCommerce, with the Storefront theme (as well as our edits and updates) plus the WooCommerce app. The app allows the store owner to quickly receive, manage and process orders – perfect for those who don’t want to deal with the WordPress backend.

Chez Sharon’s customers are both French and English, so from the outset we made sure the site had translation options built in. After many sleepless nights, we found WP Globus. This WordPress plugin allows the user to create a linked alternate-language copy of each page. WP Globus doesn’t rely on Google Translate, so we managed the translations in-house. Relying too much on automated translation can lend an unprofessional vibe to your site, and leads to funny errors. Chez Sharon became Sharon’s Home on an earlier test which doesn’t have the same ring to it!
